Highlights: Canada’s first-ever category-based EE Draw held for Healthcare professionals

  • IRCC conducted Canada’s first-ever category-based EE Draw for healthcare professionals on 28 June 2023.
  • The new EE category-based selection Draw invited 500 healthcare professionals.
  • The minimum CRS score set for the category-based Express Entry Draw was 476.
  • Six new categories were announced for the category-based Draws on 31 May 2023.
  • The next round of category-based selection Draw will invite candidates from STEM backgrounds.

Category-based Selection EE Draw

  • Sean Fraser, the Immigration Minister of Canada, announced Category-based selection for EE Draws.
  • Six categories were chosen for the category-based EE Draws. The lists of categories are as follows –
  1. Healthcare
  2. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
  3. Trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
  4. Transportation
  5. Agriculture and Agri-food
  6. Strong French language proficiency
  • The first category-based Express Entry draw was held on 28 June and invited 500 healthcare professionals with a cut-off score 476.

Healthcare Occupation in Category-based selection

The IRCC announced six categories for the new category-based selection for the EE draw on 31 May 2023.

Healthcare occupation is one of the six categories with the highest number of eligible occupations.

The table given below has the list of the eligible healthcare occupations:

  • Chiropractors
  • Dentists
  • Dieticians and nutritionists
  • Education counsellors
  • General practitioners and family physicians
  • Instructors of persons with disabilities
  • Kinesiologists and other professional occupation in therapy and assessment
  • Licensed practical nurses
  • Massage therapists
  • Medical laboratory assistants and related technical occupations
  • Medical laboratory technologists
  • Medical radiation technologists
  • Medical sonographers
  • Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Nursing coordinators and supervisors
  • Occupational therapists
  • Optometrists
  • Other assisting occupations in support of health services
  • Other practitioners of natural healing
  • Other professional occupations in health diagnosing and treating
  • Other technical occupations in therapy and assessment
  • Paramedical occupations
  • Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
  • Physician assistants, midwives and allied health professionals
  • Physiotherapists
  • Psychologists
  • Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
  • Respiratory therapists, clinical perfusionists and cardiopulmonary technologists
  • Specialists in clinical and laboratory medicine
  • Specialists in surgery
  • Therapists in counselling and related specialized therapies
  • Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists
  • Veterinarians
