Employer-based Immigration (EB)

The employer-based immigration is a work visa that permits U.S. employers to hire skilled foreign staff for a specific period. The E.B. visa is categorized into five different sections, namely –

Family-based Immigration

Individuals wishing to migrate to the USA permanently would require an Immigrant visa (IV). The candidate needs sponsorship from immediate relatives living in the USA to be eligible for the IV. The close relatives must be at least 21 years old and a citizen of the U.S. or a permanent resident of the USA.

There are two types of family immigrants’ visas –

  • Immediate relative: This type of visa is specifically for those sponsored by immediate relatives like a child, parent, or spouse. This category does not have a particular cap on the number of immigrants that can be invited.
  • Family reference: This type of visa is specifically for distant family relatives with citizenship of the U.S. and LPR (Lawful permanent residents) in some cases. This category has a cap on the number of immigrants that can be invited.

 
Student visa

The U.S. student visa is particularly for foreigners who wish to pursue their education in the country. There are two major student visa options –

  • F-1 Visa: The F-1 visa is the most preferred student visa for individuals who wish to study in the U.S. Candidates who want to join the 9th grade or above can apply for the F-1 visa.
  • M-1 Visa: The M-1 visa is for candidates who wish to go to the USA for non-academic training like vocational courses or training.
  • J Visa: The J visa is for candidates who have opted for study-based programs.

Eligibility for US immigration

  • Age: Must be over the age of 18.
  • Educational qualifications:  Must have academic qualifications equivalent to USA secondary education.
  • Language proficiency: Must score at least 320 GRE points and a score of 6.5-7.0 in IELTS.
  • Work experience: Must have prior work experience of a minimum of one year. 
  • Job offer: There is no mandatory requirement for a job. You can migrate with or without an employment offer.

  • The copy of the National Visa Center (NVC) interview letter.
  • Confirmation page of the DS-260 Application Form.
  • Medical certificate
  • Criminal Clearance certificate
  • A passport with a validity of a minimum of 6 months.

USA Visa Interview: 5 Things to Know

  • Age Limit: People between the ages of 14-79 must attend the USA via interview.
  • Wait times: The approximate time for the U.S. visa appointment can be within three months of the NVC’s acceptance of the submitted requirements.
  • Length: The total time for the U.S. visa interview can be 2-3 hours.
  • Passport return: Approval and accepted applications can take 7-10 days to be processed.
  • Best Time: The best time to schedule or book an appointment is three months prior to the planned travel date.
