Germany Immigration Points Calculator

Germany is one of the top immigration destinations, second only to the USA. It has a large economy and is a hotspot for overseas companies and IT professionals. Germany's real points-based route is the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), introduced on 1 June 2024 under Section 20a of the German Residence Act. It lets qualified professionals enter Germany to search for a skilled job, even without a job offer in hand, as long as they score at least 6 points across a defined set of criteria.

Eligibility Requirements for the Germany points calculator

There are two ways to qualify, and you only need to meet one:

  • Direct route (no points needed): If your foreign university degree or vocational qualification is fully recognised in Germany, you qualify automatically as a skilled worker, provided you can support yourself financially.
  • Points route: If your qualification isn't fully recognised, you can still qualify by scoring at least 6 points (see below), as long as you also meet these baseline requirements:
    • A recognised degree, or a vocational qualification of at least 2 years, state-recognised in your home country
    • Basic language ability: German at A1 level, or English at B2 level
    • Proof of financial means: at least €1,091 a month, or €13,092 for a 12-month period
    • Valid health insurance covering your stay

How to score points via the German PR Points calculator?

Candidates are required to score 100 points to be eligible for Germany PR:

You can score points via the factors given below:

  • Language proficiency: Candidates with A2 Level proficiency in the German language can achieve 25-50 points. (optional)
  • Candidates who have previously resided in Germany can score 50 points.
  • Candidates with French or English proficiency can score 25 points.
  • Candidates who have previously lived in the European Union can score 25 points.
  • Candidates with relatives settled in Germany can receive up to 50 points.

Candidates who score 100 points on the calculator enter the pool of eligible candidates. Employers can access the pool and offer jobs to potential candidates who meet the requirements.
