What are the various ways to apply for Australia PR visa as a skilled worker?

There are several visa pathways available for Australia immigration. It’s up to you to choose the appropriate pathway based on eligibility and other requirements.

Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189): This visa is meant for skilled foreign workers who are invited for the skills required in the Australian labor market. It’s necessary that the occupation they are in is on the Skilled Occupation List. They will have to go through a skills assessment and must be invited to apply for this visa.

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190): This visa is meant for skilled foreign workers who are nominated by a state/territory in Australia before being invited to apply for this visa. How can I migrate to Australia under the Family Stream?

Here are a few visa options to immigrate to Australia under the family stream.

Subclass 100 – Partner (Migrant) visa

It’s an Australia PR visa that allows the spouse/de facto partner of an Australian PR/citizen or a New Zealand citizen deemed eligible to live permanently in Australia. It’s generally granted to those who hold a Subclass 309 visa.

Subclass 309 – Partner (Provisional) visa

The spouse/de facto partner of an Australia PR/citizen or an eligible New Zealand citizen lives in Australia temporarily until Subclass 100 visa is not approved or withdrawn. This must be applied for from outside Australia.

Subclass 300 – Prospective Marriage visa

Subclass 801 – Partner visa

Subclass 820 – Partner (Temporary) visa

Subclass 600 (Visitor visa) – Sponsored family stream

Subclass 114 – Aged Dependent Relative visa

Subclass 189 – Skilled Independent Visa

Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated Visa

When will I require health insurance to move to Australia?

Is the medical examination mandatory for me to apply for an Australian visa?

Not all Australian visa applications require applicants to get a medical examination. Applicants from countries that are considered to have a high health risk by the DIBP (Department of Immigration and Border Protection) are the ones that usually are required to go through the medical examination criteria.

Among other circumstances that may raise the need for medical examinations to include the applicant’s personal health status, your occupation, the period you stayed in Australia, and if you are going to work in schools or in healthcare facilities in Australia.

Here’s a list of people for whom it’s mandatory that they meet health requirements:

  • All applicants for Australia PR visas must undergo a full medical examination and chest x-ray with a “panel doctor”.

Do I need a sponsor to work in Australia?

It isn’t always necessary to have a sponsor to work in Australia. Nevertheless, at times, having a sponsor can enhance your chances of obtaining a visa.

You can get sponsorship in one of the 2 ways:

  • find a sponsor yourself
  • put in an EOI (expression of interest) using SkillSelect

Completing an EOI (expression of interest) on SkillSelect isn’t the same as completing a visa application. The former just means that you can be found and granted nominations by employers for an Australian visa. There isn’t a fee for creating/submitting an EOI in SkillSelect.

How long can it take to get work in Australia after immigration?

It could take you a long time to find the right job, it can take a long time and is by no means guaranteed. In many cases, eligible job seekers have to look for employment for many months.

So, it’s best to find a job before you immigrate to Australia.

Can I amend my EOI (Expression of Interest) in SkillSelect after receiving an invitation to apply for State nomination?

In case your EOI is amended while the application process is in progress, and it results in a dip in your ranking and/or points score, you must present evidence to substantiate and establish the points you claimed in your EOI.

I’m in a relationship with an Australian citizen. How do I come to Australia?

If you are either in a married or de-facto relationship with an Australia PR/Australian citizen, you may have the eligibility to obtain a partner visa. In case you are living offshore, you would have to apply for the offshore category under Subclass 100/309. Your visa application will be assessed at the processing center that’s nearest to you.

If you are currently residing in Australia with your Australian partner, then you would apply for the onshore category under the subclass 801/820. For the Partner Visa, processing times vary significantly. You may also have the eligibility for a Prospective Marriage Visa in case you are residing offshore and engaged to be married to an Australia PR/Australian citizen as well.
