Australia Professional Year Program

Australia has a Professional Year Program (PYP) designed for overseas students who have graduated from an Australian university and wish to apply for permanent residence.

The PYP helps these students to explore a career path by providing the relevant practical training. This internship program is approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

The PYP was developed to help overcome the shortage of skilled workers in various important sectors in Australia. It was developed to promote the supply of skilled workers in sectors such as engineering, IT, and accounting.

The PYP is open to students who have completed a degree in an Australian university, but the degree must not be more than 2 years old. The program has a duration of 44 weeks. It combines 32 weeks of course work and 12 weeks of internship.

The internship should be in the field of the applicant’s nominated skilled occupation or an occupation that is closely related to it.

Eligibility requirements for a Professional Year Program:

Applicants should have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from an Australian university.

They should hold a Subclass 485, which allows them to remain in Australia for 18 months after the completion of their degree.

They must have a minimum score of 6 in all the bands of IELTS.

They must have completed a valid skills assessment from an assessing authority.
