Northwest Territories

The NWT or Northwest Territories is an area in the north and northwest Canada. In the 20th century, the NW Territories constituted more than 1/3rd of the area presently known as Canada.

Nunavut was created from the eastern region of the Northwest Territories in 1999. The region was renamed Northwest Territories after Nunavut came into existence, and the former was reduced in size by more than half.

The territories of Nunavut border the NWT in the east and Yukon in the west. In the south, the province is bordered by the provinces of Saskatchewan, Albert, and British Columbia.

The NWT reached far beyond the Arctic Circle in the north, consisting of various islands.

Yellowknife is the capital of the territory.

Apart from the three territories that make Canada, along with the ten provinces, Yukon and the NW Territories participate in the PNP or Provincial Nominee Program. Nunavut does not have any program for immigration to induct new immigrants into the territory.

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program helps NWT nominate immigrants for the provincial nomination for Canada PR or permanent residency.

The NWT Express Entry speeds up the application’s processing times for skilled workers who want to work and live in the NWT.

The candidates are awarded 600 points more in the pool of federal Express Entry. A nomination from any of the Express Entry-linked PNP streams increases your chances for Canada PR or permanent residency.
