Highlights: Ontario to double its skilled immigrant intake in 2023

  • Ontario plans to increase the count of skilled immigrants in the country.
  • The province is targeting to reach a target of 18,000 immigrants by 2025.
  • The Ontario Immigrant nominee program (OINP) is set to welcome more skilled immigrants in 2023.

Canada Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)

  • The Ontario Immigrant Nomine Program (OINP) is a provincial nominee program (PNP) that is one of the top pathways to migrate to Canada as a skilled professional.
  • Candidates who qualify for the list of skills and eligibility listed by the OINP receive a provincial nomination.
  • Candidates with a provincial nomination can apply for Canada PR via the IRCC.
  • The PNP can be classified into two main streams: base streams and enhanced streams.
  • An additional $25 million investment will be added to the existing $15 million investment in the Budget 2022.
  • The 2023 Ontario Budget has an investment of $25 million planned along with other critical factors for the immigrants.
  • Investments are set to be made in skills training, skilled trades system, and transformation of apprenticeship that will benefit the new immigrants who enter the country.
  • A $75 million investment is set to be made to the Skills Development Funds for job seekers over the next three years.
  • $224 million will be invested by the government for the years 2023 & 2024, specifically for the capital stream under the Skills Development Fund.
