Germany plans to implement revised rules for the German work permit to bring in more immigrants that can contribute to the economy's growth.

  1. Opportunity card for job-seekers

    • A new evaluation method, the opportunity card, will be introduced for job-seekers.
    • This points-based system will assess factors like language proficiency, work experience, and basic qualifications regarding age.
    • Candidates given this card will be permitted to reside in Germany to look for employment opportunities.
    • Unskilled workers will also be given a chance, provided a skill shortage exists in any of the sectors.

  • The EU blue card to become more flexible for specialists with a university degree.
  • The new changes also aim to facilitate foreigners with vocational training for study or work purposes.

  • Germany follows a formal recognition process to check eligibility and educational qualifications equivalent to a German degree.
  • Plans are made to allow people from other countries to come and work in Germany in their field of expertise without formal recognition of their qualifications.
  1. Professional qualifications to be recognized post-arriving in the country –

The process of international qualification recognition can now be initiated post the arrival of the candidates in the country, unlike the ongoing rule.

  1. Allowance of short-term employment -

  • Employers can employ foreign candidates on a short-term basis to meet the immediate work requirements, irrespective of their qualifications.
  • The total number of allotments will be limited and capped.
