Immigration Canada witnessed another Express Entry draw by Canada that invited candidates who had already got a provincial nomination.

On May 27, 2020, the date of the draw, 385 Invitations to Apply (ITA) were issued.

With the provincial nomination that the candidates received, they got 600 additional points added to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This additional score led to the minimum CRS score requirement to shoot up to 757 from the otherwise 157 points for this draw.

Of the PNP only draws held since the preventive measures for COVID-19 have been implemented by Canada, this was the sixth one. These measures were imposed on March 18, 2020.

The tie-break rule applied in this draw with the date and time of April 27, 2020, at 10:19:01 UTC being stipulated. So, candidates with 757 or more as CRS score who submitted their profile on this date got an ITA in this round.

With Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) holding targeted draws with unpredictable timelines, the frequency of these draws could be either days or hours apart.

Even if there are travel restrictions in place in Canada, more ITAs have been issued in 2020 compared to the same time in 2019. Till and including May 27, 2020, 38,585 Express Entry candidates have been invited to apply for a permanent residence this year.

The federal government manages Canada immigration. Through the Express Entry system, the Canadian government manages immigration applications for 3 economic class programs namely:

  • Canadian Experience class
  • Federal Skilled Trades
  • Federal Skilled Worker

The eligible candidates for any of these programs will submit their profile into the Express Entry pool. There, these candidates are granted CRS score based on:

  • Age
  • Education
  • Experience
  • French or English Language skills

The highest-ranked candidates get invited to apply for permanent residence via regular Express Entry draws.
