UAE to become more attractive for international students

According to a Dubai Study, India could soon overtake China as the fastest-growing target market for international students.

As per foreign Universities, India is growing even more rapidly than China in sending students abroad for higher education. The study conducted by BMI Media and the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) spoke to over 104 Universities in UAE, UK, UK, Canada, and Australia.

The Khaleej Times quoted Mohammad Abdullah of DIAC as saying that India and China were the leading markets of international students coming to Dubai. This could be due to the flexibility and the simple visa process. There are a lot of Indian expats living in Dubai. Their children are joining various Universities along with the students coming from abroad.

The study had asked the Universities overseas to rank the countries in the order of international students. China ranked 1^st with 17% with India close on its heels with 16.8%. Nigeria was at 5% while Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were at 4.9% and 4.8% respectively.

Abdullah said that with the current visa reforms, UAE is all set to become even more attractive to international students.

UAE had recently made an announcement that students who do exceptionally well in Universities of UAE would be granted a 10-year residency visa. Other students would be eligible to apply for a 5-year residency visa in the UAE. Students on a dependent visa will be granted an extension so that they may find employment opportunities in the country after completing their studies. Universities in the Gulf country can definitely benefit from the current visa changes.

14% of the Universities that were surveyed by the Dubai study reported a decrease in the number of international students. 60% of these were Universities from the USA which reported that due to the immigration policies of the current Govt., lesser students are now opting for the USA.

Canada, on the other hand, has seen a surge in the number of international students. There has been a growth of over 11% in the Universities of the Maple Country.
