As the report states, employee shortages are highest in Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia. The industrial sectors that are facing the highest number of worker shortages include IT, computer science, and engineering.

Currently, the lack of sufficient employees to work in a range of job roles is pushing 67% of Canadian employers to face delayed or canceled projects. Also, 60% of Canadian employers fear that they may incur losses in revenue. To resolve the situation, 30% of these employers are mulling relocation of their work outside Canada. A quarter of these employers have worries about risking the loss of their market share owing to a lack of skilled workers.

Canada immigration is currently proving to be the best way to find the most skilled and qualified workers to join the workforce in Canada in various industries.

How are companies recruiting immigrants?

The companies that participated in the survey collectively employ over 1.6 million Canadians in 20 industries. In 2020, they have generated revenues of close to CAD1.2 trillion.

Of the employers who participated in the survey 65% resorted to hiring immigrants to Canada on a yearly basis. Among the companies in Canada that are using Canada immigration to recruit employees, 63% is expected to increase the use of immigrants in the 3 years to come. Nearly all of these employers expect a 25% increase in such recruitment.

Another interesting fact about the survey results is that close to half the respondents in the survey hired international students. They found these international students from post-secondary institutions in Canada.
