On March 18, 2021, Prince Edward Island issued 150 invites to immigration candidates. 140 of the total invites went to candidates from the Express Entry and Labor Impact streams. 10 invites went to candidates of the Business Impact stream. All the candidates required a minimum of 70 points to be eligible for the invitation.

When Canadian provinces need immigration candidates to fill their labor market requirements, PNP draws are conducted and skilled foreigners invited to apply for Canada PR. These foreigners arrive to work in Canada and contribute to the province’s economy.

At times, such candidates are chosen from the federal Express Entry pool when the PNP draw aligns itself with the Express Entry system. It’s Canada’s aim to welcome 80,000 new immigrants via PNPs to Canada in 2021.

About PEI PNP Express Entry Category

The Express Entry of the PEI PNP functions aligned with the federal government of Canada’s Express Entry System. The federal Express Entry system manages visa applications for 3 immigration programs of the economic-class. These are FSTP, FSWP, and CEC.

Eligible candidates are ranked based on scores by the CRS. The factors considered for determining their scores include education, age, work experience, and proficiency in the English or French language.

In PNP draws aligned with the federal Express Entry, the candidates receive provincial nomination if they are found good enough for the provincial requirements. Such candidates are provincially nominated, and 600 extra CRS points are added to their base score. With the new high CRS score, these candidates stand a sure guaranteed chance to get an ITA in a subsequent federal immigration draw.

If an Express Entry candidate wants to get nominated from PEI, that candidate must submit with PEI PNP an EOI profile. EOI profiles are ranked with points on the basis of PEI’s unique points grid. The candidates who receive the highest scores get invited to apply for Canada PR via a monthly immigration draw.

For the March 18 draw, PEI gave no information on how many Express Entry and Labor Impact candidates got invited for the categories involved. The minimum EOI score required was also not disclosed.

About Labour Impact Category

Then Labor Impact category of PEI PNP is meant for foreign nationals holding a valid job offer from an employer in PEI. They also have the support of their Canadian employer. This category is divided into 3 streams. They are:

  • International Graduate
  • Critical Worker
  • Skilled Worker

Candidates belonging to this category have to also submit an EOI so that they are considered for a provincial nomination via the Labor Impact category.

About Business Impact Category

Candidates under this category must meet the requirement of a minimum provincial score so that they can go ahead with their applications. Each immigration draw has a different score. The invitations sent in the March 18 PNP draw by PEI were issued under the Work Permit Stream. This stream caters to foreign entrepreneurs who are willing to own and operate a business in PEI.
