Canada PGWP

The PGWP, or post-graduation work permit, allows international students to work in Canada after they complete their Master's Degrees. The PGWP is an open work permit that qualifies candidates to apply for Canada PR.

PGWP workers are free to work anywhere under any employer in Canada with no time restrictions. The level and the duration of your course, along with your passport expiration date, decide the length of the PGWP.

  • Students enrolled in Graduate or Master's degree programs under two years.
  • Students enrolled in a Masters program with a minimum duration of 8 months or 900 hours for Quebec credentials.
  • Students enrolled in two-year graduate or master's programs are from registered DLIs.

Processing Time for PGWP

You must apply for PGWP within 180 days, starting when you finish your study program. Applicants can now apply for a PGWP from outside the country, even after exiting Canada after completing their studies.

It takes around 80 to 180 days for your PGWP to get processed. However, you can work in Canada while your PGWP application is being processed, provided you applied before the expiry of your student permit.
