Nova Scotia in Canada approved a record number of applications in 2018 from immigration candidates. The province is on its way to welcome more Permanent Residents than it ever did in the past. Nova Scotia has accepted 2,272 applications in 2018 in comparison to 1,651 in 2017. The Nova Scotia Nominee Program accepted 1,400 applications in 2018. The remaining 872 applications were accepted through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. Out of the 1,400 applications, 1,095 applications were approved under the Nova Scotia Demand, Nova Scotia Experience and Labour Market Priorities stream. The AIPP is operated jointly by the Federal Govt. and the provincial governments of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. 716 businesses in Nova Scotia are listed under this program. As per a report from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration, the province is expecting a high number of PR landings this year. 5,225 newcomers settled in Nova Scotia between 1st January and 31st October 2018. The Govt. anticipates that the numbers in 2018 will cross the numbers of 2016. 5,845 newcomers landed in Nova Scotia in 2016. CIC News quoted Lena Metlege Diab, Immigration Minister of Nova Scotia as saying that the figures reflect the work put in by the province. Diab believes that the rise in numbers will help grow the population and strengthen the economy. There has been an upward trend in Nova Scotia’s immigration numbers in the last 3 years.  The province now houses a record 964,693 residents as of 1st October 2018. Two new immigration streams were introduced by the Nova Scotia Nominee Program in 2018. The first one was the Labour Market Priorities stream linked with the Express Entry. The second stream was aimed at specifically attracting doctors to the province. The Labour Market Priorities Stream allows the NSNP to nominate candidates from the EE pool. These candidates have work experience in occupations which are struggling with a labour shortage in the province. The first draw of this stream was held in August 2018. The stream targeted Early Childhood Educators and Assistants. The Physician’s stream aims at attraction foreign primary care doctors and specialists to the province. It was created in February 2018 and has issued 18 nominations so far.
