On September 15, 2021, Canada conducted a round of invitations for Express Entry candidates and issued invites to 521 selected candidates in an Express Entry draw. All candidates who were invited already had a provincial nomination from a previous PNP draw.

Owing to having a provincial nomination, these candidates got 600 extra CRS points which made the minimum score of this draw reach 732. Only those who scored the minimum points were eligible for invitation.

The invited candidates were given 60 days to apply for Canada PR.

Canada immigration in 2021

Since 2021 began, IRCC has conducted only Express Entry draws that are specific to PNP and CEC candidates. In that line, the September 15 draw was the 18th held in 2021 which was PNP-specific.

Since the COVID-19 changed the whole immigration landscape, Canada too focused on achieving its immigration targets by finding easily available candidates. CEC candidates for instance were mostly living in Canada only and hence were immune to the difficulties of relocating to Canada due to COVID-induced travel restrictions.

In comparison to 2020, in 2021, IRCC has almost doubled the number of ITAs issued. Also, CEC-specific draws have typically had lower cut-off scores. This was because the immigration draws were focused on a particular group of applicants who are not competing with any other overseas candidates.

About Express Entry

Express Entry is a points-based application management system used by the federal government to manage applications for immigration. These applications are filed for 3 federal high-skilled immigration programs namely CEC, FSTP, and FSWP.

The applicants to Express Entry have their profiles added to a candidate pool that's accessible to both federal and provincial governments. Every candidate profile is ranked by CRS with scores assigned. Factors like age, education, work experience, and skills in Canada’s official language are considered to decide the scores.

When provincial governments choose Express Entry candidates through PNP draws, they automatically add 600 extra points to their original CRS scores. This way, the candidates get a higher score that will increase their chances to get an ITA to the near surety in a forthcoming federal immigration draw.

The highest-scoring Express Entry candidates are invited by IRCC to apply for Canada PR when they take part in regular invitation rounds. Those who are invited can officially apply for Canada immigration.
