Highlights: Amendments in UAE visa system

  • A revised UAE visa system will be introduced on October 3, 2022, for those residing currently in the UAE.
  • There are changes made to the Green Visa issued by the UAE making its tenure from 2 to 3 years to 5 years.
  • UAE residents can extend their stay in the country for up to 6 months after a residence visa expires.

In the UAE, certain revamps and changes will be done and a revised UAE visa system will be implemented on October 3, 2022. The information related to this revision was released by the ICP (Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security) on September 5, 2022.

These revisions are applicable to those who are already residing in the UAE. They will also be applicable to those who are planning to migrate to the UAE for work or business.

The changes under the UAE visa system’s revision

Here are the several changes that will be implemented to the visa system in the UAE:

  • The revised UAE visa system is decided to be put in effect from October 3, 2022.
  • Under the revamped visa system most opportunities for UAE residency will be free from the need for an employer to sponsor you. This will pave the way for self-sponsorship. Once this initiative rolls out, it will improve the way of working, living, and investing for the resident in the UAE, making it a fruitful experience.
  • The validity of a Green Visa will be changed to 5 years instead of 2 to 3 years.
  • Green Visas holders will now be self-sponsored. You as a Green Visa holder can also sponsor first-degree relatives (parents, brothers/sisters, and children).
  • Even if your UAE visa meets its expiry, you will be allowed to stay in the country for up to 6 months. The same is applicable if the visa is revoked. Once your residence visa gets canceled, you typically can stay in the UAE for one month.
  • In case you fit into one of the categories given below, you could lodge a Green Visa application:
    • Skilled worker
    • A financier/associate in a business venture
    • Independent worker/self-employed
  • New categories for entrance permits have now been established. You will no longer need a sponsor in the UAE so you can obtain visa types like
    • Visas for job applicants
    • Visas to pursue investment opportunities
    • Visas to pursue several business opportunities
  • ICP states that the new entry permits to the UAE won’t last longer, permitting visits of not more than a year.
  • The UAE resident visa will retain its validity if you spend a time period of more than 6 months outside of the UAE.
  • Those who hold the UAE Golden Visa will be allowed to sponsor their sons aged not more than 25.

These updates will help you to make your stay and visa plans handled rightly without any issues.
