Eligibility criteria for Chefs

The eligibility criteria for Chefs in Canada are:

• Completing secondary school is required.
• Trade certification of cooks, which is available in all territories and provinces, or equal credentials, required training, and experience.
• Executive chefs are required to have management training and significant experience in the commercial preparation of food, comprising of 2 years in a supervisory capacity, and have experience as a specialist chef, sous-chef, or chef.
• Sous-chefs, chefs, and specialist chefs require significant experience in the commercial preparation of food.
• Endorsement of Red Seal for cooks is offered to qualified chefs after qualifying for the examination of Red Seal.
• Certification of Chef de cuisine authorized by the Canadian Culinary Institute of the CFCC or Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks is available to qualified chefs.
