Canada has made a big announcement for Hong Kong residents. The country has announced a new open work permit and 2 new pathways to Canada PR specifically targeting Hong Kong residents.

China’s National Security Law, which has been imposed on the people of Hong Kong people has triggered this move by Canada.

Canada is stepping up existing Canada immigration programs to help people from Hong Kong who are already in Canada to stay back, and those who want to migrate to Canada once the COVID-19 related travel restrictions are removed.

Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and human rights with this new decision. Marco Mendicino, Canada’s Immigration Minister has assured continued support for the people of Hong Kong in the same spirit. He remembers and reiterates how the people-to-people relations between Canada and Hong Kong are strong and how newcomers from Hong Kong have made outstanding contributions to Canada.

IRCC has stated that the new initiative will get launched soon.
