Canada held its latest Express Entry draw on June 10, 2020. In the draw, 341 candidates with provincial nominations were invited.

Counting from March 18, 2020, when COVID-19 related travel restrictions were imposed in Canada, this draw is the seventh that targeted those who got chosen in Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP).

Canada has been switching between conducting Express Entry draws targeting candidates from Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Canada PNP.

In this draw, the minimum CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score required for candidates was 743. This was owing to the extra points added to the candidates’ original CRS scores as a result of receiving a provincial nomination.

The total number of invitations that were sent by all the provinces combined have come to 2000 since the beginning of May 2020.

In June, the active trend of PNPs is continuing with provinces like British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario holding PNPs.

When compared with PNP draws, draws for CEC candidates have a lower CRS cut-off score. The last CEC-only draw stipulated 440 as the cut-off score. This was the lowest since January 2019.

The June 10 draw applied a tie-break rule. Candidates having a CRS score of 743 or more who submitted their profile before April 14, 2020, at 13:25:51 UTC, got an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Immigration Canada’s achievements in meeting targets are quite in line with and exceeding expectations. Despite the COVID-19 related travel restrictions, Canada issued more invites than what was sent in the same time last year.

Express Entry is a system used by Canada’s federal government that manages Canada immigration to handle immigration applications for 3 economic-class programs namely:

The profiles in the Express Entry system are ranked based on human capital factors like age, education, work experience, and skills in English or French languages.

Those candidates who score the highest are invited to apply for permanent residence. This is done through Express Entry draws conducted regularly.
