How’s PEI immigration doing?

A major underestimation about PEI (Prince Edward Island) has been that its rate of immigrant retention is low. In 2022, this Canadian province is stepping up its attempts to remove this impression.

PEI has brought about many changes to the immigration programs it ran over the years. The province also has its economic programs currently in place which has led to a much higher rate of retention.

What’s the exciting news about the task force for Canada immigration?

The major focus of PEI's immigration programs has been on assisting the province’s employers to fill labor gaps and shortages of workers. In fact, the AIP (Atlantic Immigration Program) which was introduced in 2017, has been consistently resulting in a significantly high retention rate. It has hence been made a permanent immigration program in 2022.

Do you know what the switch from NOC to TEER category system is about?

The AIP is a pathway to Canada PR enabling international graduates from a Canadian institution and skilled foreign workers ready to live and work in any of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces to migrate. These provinces include Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland & Labrador.

The AIP helps employers recruit candidates qualified to work for them in job positions they have been unable to fill with local residents. Over 90% of immigrants who immigrated through the AIP stayed on in the province even after a year of living there.

As it is with every Canada PNP program, PEI PNP draws lead to selected candidates getting 600 extra CRS points. This ensures that they get the opportunity to apply for a Canada PR visa.

The Express Entry stream of PEI PNP selects Canada immigration candidates with profiles already created in the Express Entry pool. They are the ones who get the advantage of the extra CRS points upon getting nominated by the province.
