Highlights: 4.2 million immigrant women in Canada

  • Immigrants contribute nearly 100% of Canada's labor force growth and 75% of the Canadian population.
  • Canada's working women immigrant population is said to be 4.2 million, as per the StatCan reports.
  • Minority women are also given an equal chance making up almost 2.9 million numbers.
  • StatCan reports that the National workforce has about 83% participation rate from women alone.
  • The labor market contribution from men is about 91.5% suggests StatCan.

  • The executive positions in Canada report that one in four executives is a woman, and one in seven is migrant women in Canada.
  • Most executive women are from the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • 1,215,200 women migrated to Canada via the Economic Immigration program, and 1,194,685 emigrated through Family Class Sponsorship.
  • 620,885 women were found to be principal economic applicants migrants in 2022.
  • The economic immigration programs usually focus on candidates with registered experience and top-demand skills.
  • Migrant women married or found in lawful relationships are more likely to get full-time employment in the country than Canadian-based women.

  • The Pay Equity Act was implemented by the Federal government to bridge the disparity between the age gaps and compensated wages.
  • Canadian provinces have initiated various programs to curb gender and pay discrimination.
  • British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario & Saskatchewan have implemented an initiative for the Prohibition of Human Rights legislation.
  • Ontario, Manitoba, Yukon, Newfoundland, Northeast territories & Newfoundland initiated "Equal pay is necessary for employment standards.
  • The Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot has made $6 million as additional funding.
