Norway student visa

If you wish to study in Norway and do not belong to the EU, you will require a Norway student visa to study here if the course has a duration of six months or more.

The country has over 70 public and private educational institutes offering a variety of courses. The duration of the various level of course in the country are:

  • Bachelor’s degree: 3 years
  • Master’s degree: 2 or 5 years
  • Doctorate: 3-year research-oriented education which may include 1 additional year for teaching

The universities here follow the Bologna system like other European nations.

Documents required for Norway study visa application

A completed application form

Receipt of having paid the visa application fees

A valid passport

Two recent passport-size photos

Proof of admission to a full-time study program in Norway

Proof of having the required financial resources to cover your educational and living expenses during your course of study

Proof of accommodation

 Proof that you will leave Norway when your residence permit expires

Language requirement

While international students may enroll in courses taught in English, it is beneficial for them to learn Norwegian. This will assist them in communicating with the local community and becoming acquainted with the culture. They will be able to communicate in Swedish and Danish, which are closely related to Norwegian. Students may enroll in language courses offered by many universities.

A minimum level of English language proficiency is required. The test scores accepted by universities in Netherlands:

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
Working while studying

Non-EU students are welcome to work here during their studies. During the program, a student can work 20 hours per week and full-time during summer breaks.

 Student dependent visa

On a student dependent visa, international students with a study permit may bring their dependents, such as their spouse and children.

Family members of students are eligible to apply for a job or residency permit if the student visa holder meets the government’s minimum income requirements.

FAQ
Can my family join me on my study permit for Norway?

Your family – spouse, partner, and children – can come and live with you in Norway. If you are applying simultaneously, the decision on the application of the family members will be given at the same time.

If I apply for permanent residence permit later, will the period on my student permit to Norway be counted?

The period that you spend in Norway on your student permit will not be counted if you wish to apply for a Norway permanent residence permit later on.
