Community recommendations for workers to move to Canada is a route taken in Canada immigration. Sudbury in Ontario, also a community in Canada, has recently conducted a Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) draw. It invited workers into the area for their chief industries. The Sudbury community, one among 11 communities in Canada, needs foreign workers to work on their mining projects in supply and service areas. Besides this, workers are needed in the tourism industry too. The candidates aged 30 to 50, supposed to have work experience of 10 to 15 years, are preferred on priority. The age group is even given extra points while determining Canada immigration eligibility. For candidates coming through RNIP, Canadian officials have made a list of target occupations they are invited for. These are:
NOC Code Occupation Name

2 Natural and applied sciences and related occupations
1 Business, finance, and administration occupations
6315 Cleaning supervisors
6314 Customer and information services supervisors

6332 Bakers
6331 Butchers, meat cutters, and fishmongers – retail and wholesale

3413 Nurse’s aides, orderlies and patient service associations

The Sudbury RNIP has opened opportunities in the following industries:
Industry Candidates eligible
Tourism Open to applicants living in Sudbury and applicants living abroad
Mining Supply and Services Sector Open to applicants living in Sudbury and applicants living abroad
Any sector Only open to candidates already living in Sudbury
Candidates who are eligible to immigrate to Canada through Sudbury RNIP should have
  • Job offers for a full-time job with a permanent position. The work hours must be a minimum of 1,560 hours a year and 30 hours a week
  • A remuneration that matches the prevailing wage for the job being offered
Employers too have to fulfill certain criteria like
  • The employer must have been active in his/her business in Sudbury for not less than a year
  • The employer must be located in Sudbury or within a distance that’s easily reachable
  • The employer must prove that he/she made efforts to fill the job vacancy with a local person
With a community recommendation, the candidate can stay and work in Sudbury. The process of getting a permanent residence with such a recommendation will take 12 to 18 months to complete. But it’s a great opportunity to try for as the RNIP stream is as promising as any other stream to settle and work in Canada.
