Have you been seeking credible guidance on doing advanced studies in Canada? Well, the wait is over. We are here to tell you all about why you must study in Canada, what you must aim for during your studies in Canada, and what is Canada offering you to make your dream come true when it comes to becoming a Canada PR.

A lot of international students are going the Canada way to complete their post-secondary and post-graduate studies. Canada is the third country in the world to welcome the highest number of international students.

It’s fascinating to learn that so many youngsters use Canadian post-secondary education as a pathway to enter into the workstream of Canada and eventually settle there as residents. You can start this journey by obtaining a Canada Student visa.

Canada offers a world-class education, a friendly social environment, a multicultural community, and an easy option to integrate and prosper into the Canadian society if you are proficient in English and/or French languages.

Canada encourages international students to join Canadian universities and colleges, some of the highly ranked ones on a world scale, and become highly educated and resourceful people, also a part of the Canadian society. The students who complete their studies in Canada get the opportunity to study in the best firms in the world, in preferred careers in various fields like healthcare, IT, hospitality, fintech, etc.

The costs of tuition and living are quite affordable when compared with countries like the USA, the UK, and Australia. This means that students won’t have to panic about meeting exorbitant costs of study and living in Canada in general.

If you are a student in Canada, enrolled in a full-time study program on a valid Canada study visa, you are allowed to work for up to 20 hours a week during the school year. You can work full-time on vacations and such scheduled breaks.

The PGWP advantage

The greatest incentive for international students to join courses in Canada is the PGWP. This permit to work after completing studies in Canada is valid from 8 months to 3 years. The PGWP allows you to work in Canada legally and helps you lay the foundation of your work experience in the country.

With a PGWP, you can opt to work full-time or part-time. You could be self-employed or working with a Canadian employer. The best thing about PGWP, both for you and your employer in Canada is that no LMIA is involved in permitting you to be employed in Canada.

This means that the Canadian employer won’t have to prove first that you, a PGWP holder, were employed because the employer couldn’t find a suitable native Canadian to man the job. This helps the employer to avoid incurring the expense and time spent on LMIA and can readily employ you after your education is done in Canada.

The path to Canada PR for international students

Every Canadian province has a minimum of one immigration stream that exists for the sole purpose of recruiting foreigners who have graduated from Canadian institutions to become PRs in Canada. British Columbia has 4 such streams and Manitoba has 3. Certain streams are focused on graduates in specific fields while others are more generic. Some streams are meant for those who have gained education in specific levels like Masters or Ph.D. Besides these, there are streams that cater to those who want to pursue an entrepreneurial route.

The work experience gained by you with PGWP can add to your profile when you immigrate to Canada later via the Express Entry system. The advantage of weightage that the work experience gives will better their prospects at getting a Canada PR visa. Express Entry is a points-based system and you will get extra points for having skilled work experience in Canada.

Why are international students excellent candidates for Canada immigration?

International students who graduate from Canadian institutions are the most suitable and favorite candidates for Canada immigration. The following are the reasons for this:

  • They gain valuable study and/or work experience in Canada
  • They have high educational qualification
  • They are a relatively younger population
  • They gain and develop language skills in English or French in the course of their studies

Canada’s welcome attitude towards international students

While COVID-19 had threatened to leave educational admissions in uncertainty in many countries, Canada went ahead and required select educational institutions willing to conduct on-campus classes to adopt a COVID-19 prevention plan whereby they become DLIs. International students can attend courses on the campuses of these DLIs. They get an exemption from travel restrictions too.

Moreover, those international students who could not come to Canada to attend the course on campus can attend the course online. As a special provision under the present circumstances, the Canadian government has allowed eligibility for students who do distance or online learning to qualify for PGWP.

IRCC has also relaxed the deadlines for applications and renewals for PGWP. All these measures make Canada a great choice to do advanced studies.
