Prince Edward Island conducted a PNP draw on May 20, 2021. 155 immigration candidates were invited via the PNP. The invites were sent as given below:

  • Express Entry & Labor Impact streams – 138 invites
  • Business Impact stream – 17 invites

The minimum point threshold required of the candidates was 80 across streams.

PNPs help Canadian provinces and territories to find candidates who meet the province’s labor market requirements and are willing to immigrate to Canada. The PEI PNP functions with this aim within the guidelines approved by the federal government.

There has been a decline in Immigration to PEI over the past year. This was largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions that followed. However, plans are made by the federal government to make up for the fall in immigration. The federal government is determined to achieve the ambitious target for Canada immigration in 2021.

Through PNPs, Canada is trying to bring in 80,800 new immigrants in 2021.

Express Entry category in PEI PNP

The Express Entry category of PEI PNP is an enhanced PNP. This PNP is hence linked with the Express Entry system maintained by the federal government.

The Express Entry system is used to manage the applications for 3 immigration programs of the economic class: FSWP, FSTP, and CEC.

Eligible candidates get a CRS score considering factors such as their work experience, age, language proficiency in English/French, and education.

Through PNPs like the PEI PNP, Express Entry candidates get a provincial nomination. For that reason, they are given 600 extra CRS points. With this, they are in effect guaranteed that they will receive an ITA for Canada PR. This will happen in a federal Express Entry draw in the future.

To be picked for PEI’s provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates must create an EOI profile. This must be done with the PEI PNP.

EOI profiles are granted points on the basis of the province’s points grid, which is unique. The candidates who score the highest are then sent invitations to apply via monthly draws.

Labour Impact Category

The Labor Impact category is designed for nationals of foreign countries holding a valid job offer in PEI. They also have their employer’s support in PEI. It's split into 3 streams: International Graduate, Critical Worker, and Skilled Worker.

Candidates in the Labor Impact category also need to submit an EOI. This is necessary to be picked for a nomination from PEI via the Labour Impact category.

Business Impact Category

Candidates under the Business Impact category must satisfy the minimum requirement for a provincial score. This is necessary to go ahead with their applications. The provincial score will be different in each draw.

In this draw, PEI issued invitations under the Work Permit Stream. This stream is meant for foreign entrepreneurs willing to own and run a business in the province.
