There’s a certain number of provincial nominations each Canadian province is allowed to issue every year. This supports the applications lodged by immigration candidates for Canada PR.

Now, Ontario has released its provincial nomination allocation for 2021.

Ontario can issue 8,350 nominations this year as allowed by the federal government. An extra 250 nominations are allowed specifically for TFWs working in jobs requiring a NOC skill level C. These jobs in general need a high-school education or job training in a specific area.

This year is already proving to be a ground-breaking year for the OINP. It chose 2021 to launch an EOI system for Canada immigration programs under its Employer Job Offer category. This means that immigration candidates can engage in registering themselves for a provincial nomination at any time via its PNP that doesn't send invites to candidates who are associated with the Express Entry system.

Immigration to Ontario via the PNP

Ontario is the most popular province for Canada immigrants. Numerous immigration programs exist that are tailored for those who want to make Ontario their new home.

PNPs allowed provinces to find support to meet the particular needs of their economy. Many immigrants who come to the province via PNP find success in Ontario’s labor market. They often get jobs in their first year of arrival in Canada. A study by Statistics Canada suggests that candidates who arrive through PNP do well for a major reason that many of them possess prior experience living and working in Canada.

Broadly speaking, there are 2 categories of PNP: Base PNPs and Enhanced PNPs.

The Base PNP operates within the province independently.

Enhanced PNPs invite candidates with profiles submitted in the Express Entry system.

A provincial nomination doesn’t guarantee permanent residence in Canada. However, it can support you when submitting your application for Canada PR. The final decision regarding granting a Canada PR visa can only be made by the federal government.

Ontario and Express Entry

It’s not essential for you to file an application to a PNP to move to Ontario as an immigrant. You can directly apply to the federal government through the Express Entry system. The aim of this facility was to offer a fast-track solution to immigration. It will help Canada choose the best candidates to become Canada’s permanent residents. Such candidates will be able to thrive in Ontario’s labor market.

To apply via Express Entry, you must have eligibility for one of the 3 federal High-Skilled programs namely: CEC, FSTP, and FSWP.

You will register your profile in the Express Entry pool, wherein you also upload all necessary documents. Then you will be granted a score on the basis of factors like your experience in skilled work, age, education, and proficiency in the English/French language.

Candidates who scored the highest are sent invites to apply for Canada PR via Express Entry draws conducted regularly.
