Accredited Employer Worker Visa

The Accredited Worker Visa is a temporary work visa that allows employers to hire migrants for up to 5 years. Skilled overseas workers with an employment offer from an accredited employer in New Zealand can avail of the AEWV. Candidates can live in the country for up to 5 years with the possibility of gaining residence after two years.

New Zealand Immigration Minister Announced changes to the AEWV

Erica Stanford, the Immigration Minister of New Zealand, announced new updates to the Accredited Worker Visa with immediate effect. The government's primary focus is to recruit and retain skilled overseas workers in skill-shortage roles while reducing the displacement of local New Zealand workers. Due to the resolved shortages in the fields, the government now plans to shelf the 11 new roles that were to be added to the Green List.

Key changes announced to the AEWV

Given below is the list of changes that were announced to the Accredited Worker Visa:

  • Migrants applying at Levels 4 and 5, low-skilled roles, now have new English language requirements.
  • New minimum requirements for skills and work experience
  • The maximum duration of continuous stays for certain roles has now decreased from 5 to 3 years.
  • Employers are required to consult with Work and Income before acquiring approvals for Level 4 and 5 positions.
  • Businesses must now follow streamlined and high-standard employment processes for hiring skilled overseas workers.
