On June 9. 2020, Hungary has removed all border checks at its part of internal Schengen borders.

The country has asserted that the border checks are no longer contributing to measures to contain the COVID-19 virus.

As per the announcement of Róbert Kiss, the Lieutenant Colonel of the Hungarian Police Force, the abolishment of border control with all Schengen internal borders and the Hungarian-Slovenian border has been done after consultations with the law enforcement agencies.

He also stated that 589 compulsory home quarantines have been ordered. This brings the total number of quarantined people to nearly 10,000.

Cecília Müller, the Chief Medical Officer has affirmed the importance of practicing preparedness for relapse even when the data shows great improvement.

Hungary has already lifted travel restrictions mutually with Germany on June 7, 2020. On June 8, the country opened its border with Slovenia.

Slovakia is one of the nations that has lifted border restrictions with Hungary along with Austria on June 5.

Hungary is the first EU member state that abolished the entry ban to Schengen states. On May 25, 2020, Hungary had allowed Serbian nationals to cross its borders.

It seems the use of a Hungary tourist visa will now soon see a jump.
