If you want to work in a foreign country, France is a good option. In the event of a long-term work visa, France offers a variety of possibilities. If you intend to work in France for more than three months, you must apply for one of the following work visas. These visas have different eligibility requirements, and applicants must meet the requirements for the visa they are opting for. The following are the different types of visas:

French Salaried Employees Visa

This visa is for people who want to work in France for a year or less. For this visa, the employee must present a work contract that has been approved by the DIRECCTE (Direction régionale des entreprises, de la concurrence et de la consommation, du travail et de l'emploi).

French Work Visa for Professionals and independent workers

Doctors, lawyers, architects, bailiffs, notaries, judicial administrators, and insurance general agents are among the professions that require authorization from the relevant professional body. If you work in one of these fields, be sure you have the necessary permits before applying for a visa.

French International Organization work visa

This visa is for those who are employed by an international organisation and must travel to France on an official assignment.

Documents required

A residency permit and a work permit are both required to work in France. The following documents are needed to apply for a work permit:

  • Completed visa application form completed
  • Two recent passport-size photos
  • Passport that is valid for at least 3 months beyond the end of your planned stay in France
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover your stay
  • Proof of visa fee payment

Work authorisation document

A work authorisation is a document that allows a foreign national to work in France as an employee.

Your employer will receive a work authorization via DIRECCTE (form Cerfa n°15187*02), which will be forwarded immediately to your country of residence's embassy or consulate by the Office Français de l'Immigration et de l'Intégration (OFII).

To obtain a work visa, a company that wishes to hire a foreign national must first obtain a work permission from DIRECCTE (Direction Régionale des Entreprises, de la Concurrence, de la Consommation, du Travail et de l'Emploi). This permission must be mentioned in the visa application.

Application process

An appointment can be scheduled online. Some nations do not provide this service, in which case you will need to visit the embassy or consulate in person to schedule an appointment.

Pay the visa fees on the day of your appointment and keep the receipt you receive as proof of payment.

Attend the  visa interview.

On the day of your interview, be sure to be there on time.
