FSWP is meant for skilled foreign workers having work experience and is ready to permanently immigrate to Canada.

To qualify for FSWP, the least requirements include:

All these minimum requirements have to be met in order to be eligible for immigration. The assessment of your application for Canada immigration via FSWP is done on the basis of factors including:

  • Age
  • Work Experience
  • Education
  • Whether You Have A Valid Job Offer
  • Adaptability (How Well You Are Going To Settle In Canada)

Points are assigned for these factors as part of a 100-point grid in the process of assessment of eligibility for the FSWP. These points are awarded for how well you score in each of the 6 factors. The minimum points required for eligibility to immigrate to Canada via FSWP is 67 points.

If you are already in the Canada Express Entry candidate pool, you will have the opportunity to get selected if your score is among the highest.

Minimum requirements

Skilled work experience

By skilled work experience it means that you have worked in one of these NOC (National Occupational Classification) job groups:

  • Skill type 0 - Managerial jobs
  • Skill level A - Professional jobs
  • Skill level B - Technical jobs and skilled trades

You have to show that during your term of working in your primary occupation, you did the duties mentioned in the lead statement of the occupational description listing all the essential duties and most of the main duties. The occupational description is part of the NOC.

If you have part-time skilled work experience, you are to be paid work including paid wages and earned commission by your employer in Canada. For part-time work, you are permitted to work more or less than 15 hours a week. This is applicable as long as the total hours worked come to 1,560 hours. It’s possible for you to work more than 1 part-time job. That way you can get the working hours you require to file an application for immigration under FSWP.

If you have work experience acquired while you were doing your studies, it may be considered towards your minimum eligibility requirements. It’s possible if the work:

  • Was continuous (no time gaps in employment history)
  • Was paid by wages/commissions
  • Meets all the other criteria of the FSWP

Language skills

To apply for immigration under FSWP, you have to:

  • Take approved language tests in English/French for language abilities like:
    • Reading
    • Writing
    • Speaking
    • Listening
  • Obtain a minimum score of CLB 7 in all 4 language abilities
  • Submit the test results in your Canada Express Entry profile

The validity of your language tests is 2 years counted from the date of declaration of the test result. Ensure that the test result is valid on the day you file an application for Canada PR.
