Greece Simplified EU Blue Card Rules to Ease the Application Process for Foreigners

Kathimerini, the CEO of WorkInGreece, an online job portal, said that more than 2,000 Greek businesses have shown interest in hiring foreign talent. Reports suggest that most workers from countries like Vietnam, India, Egypt, Bangladesh, Moldova, and Georgia are looking for work opportunities in Greece. Acquiring a work permit in Greece takes around 6-9 months.

The government is taking measures to ease the application process for foreign workers to work in the country. Greece has also announced to simplify the EU Blue Card process for highly skilled foreign nationals looking for work.

Two major changes announced by Greece for foreigners who are entering the country are as follows:

  • According to the revised EU Blue Card rules, foreigners with a short-stay visa who enter Greece under the visa-free regime are now eligible to apply for an EU Blue Card.
  • Greece has revised the pre-screening requirements so applicants can choose to undergo the process.

Note: Despite the above option, applicants are recommended to go through the pre-screening process to avoid EU Blue Card rejections.
