In a decision motivated by safety concerns over COVID-19, France has announced that it has decided to stop the issue of visas. This includes visiting visas, diplomatic visas and other types of visas. This will be implemented in all its embassies and consulates around the globe. This is in view of the potential situation spurred by the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19.

A notice was published by the French government. It stated that the issuance of visas will be suspended until further notice. These will include Schengen visas too.

The French government's statement expressed concern over the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It was stated that to address the grueling concern, the country is suspending all types of visas. These include visas for both the short-term and long-term stays in France. Applications for tourist visas and other visas for which appointments have already been made are also canceled.

The French President, Emanuel Macron stated that the country is now engaged in a health war. He emphasized the gravity of the situation. He was in the first line of leaders of EU member states to confirm the unanimous decision EU states had taken to combat COVID-19. The decision was to suspend travel between European and non-European nations for no less than a month.

He declared that the borders of European Union states and the Schengen nations will be closed. All travel between these and other countries will be suspended for a month. He also announced that all French citizens must remain indoors at their homes for 2 weeks. Punitive action was declared for those who broke the order. He also declared that the second round of local elections that were scheduled for March 22, 2020, would be postponed.

He also announced that electricity, gas, rent payments and water bills will also be suspended in this time of crisis. The French government is doing its best to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Calling for nationwide cooperation, the government is bracing all odds to come out successful, surviving a hard time.
