Finland has recently experienced an increase in the number of students who applied for first-time Finland residence permits to study there. Currently, the country processes the application within 30 days. In 2023, the average processing period was a minimum of 38 days.
During this time, 8,159 applications were processed, and around 96 per cent of foreign students were issued residence permits.

As per the Finish Immigration Service report, below are the top five countries from which the country received the maximum number of residence permit applications:
Non-EU residents who have secured a study place in their home country and are planning to relocate to Finland are applying for their initial residence permit from that country.
Finland has an automated decision-making system that automatically issues a permit if the student meets all the requirements. Though this system only generates the decision and approves the permits, an officer will conduct the additional processing tasks for the residence permit.
