Croatia plans to introduce favorable policies for foreign workers employed in the country. Marin Piletić, the Croatian Labour Minister, further added that Croatia intends to set new standards for accommodating foreign workers. The government initiated the move by extending the validity of the residence and work permit application to three years. Foreign workers in Croatia with residence and work permits were earlier given 12-months validity. The government added that the move will make it easier for foreign workers to change job positions and employers.

The Pension Insurance Institute released data suggesting that around 143,000 foreign workers work in Croatia. Most of the foreign workers employed in the country are said to be the following nationals:
To address the labour shortage in Croatia, the government announced that it would issue around 20,000 work permits to foreign workers every month. Over 85,000 residence permits were granted and 32,000 extended by Croatia from January to June 2024. Considering the labor shortage situation, Istria, in Croatia, has one of the highest demands for foreign workers. The EURES Report 2023 shows that around 30 occupations face labour shortages, indicating the improved chances of foreign workers in those occupations to acquire a Croatian work permit easily.
