  • Once your application is accepted, the processing starts. Processing takes 27 months to complete. In the meantime, you can check the progress of your application.
  • An AOR will be emailed to you as an acknowledgment of the receipt of your citizenship application. Note that the COVID-19 pandemic could affect the time taken for processing.
  • Within weeks of you being sent the AOR, you may receive an invitation to take the citizenship test. Once the test is done, you will be required to attend an interview with a Canadian citizenship official.
  • After passing this interview as well as meeting other criteria for Canadian citizenship, you may be given a ceremony date. An invitation will be issued through a letter containing the citizenship ceremony date and time.
  • Now comes the final step in accepting Canadian citizenship. At the citizenship ceremony, you have to take the Oath of Citizenship.
Citizenship ceremonies can happen across Canada at any time of the year. After the citizenship ceremony, proceed with applying for a passport.
