IRCC announces cap on International students!

The IRCC has announced a cap on the number of students entering the country. A temporary cap is currently set for international study visas. A target of 360,000 students is set for 2024, with more caps that will be implemented in Canada's provinces and territories.

Student visa applications include an attestation letter from the province or territory starting January 22, 2024. However, specific categories of student visa applicants are exempted from the visa restrictions.

Some of the exemptions of the visa limitations are:

  • Current temporary study permit holders
  • Candidates who are seeking visa renewals
  • Master-degree holders
  • Doctoral-degree holders

Canada Post-Graduate Work Permit Changes

The IRCC announced changes to the eligibility requirements of (PGWP) Post-graduate Work Permit that are mentioned below:

  • Students involved in study programs under curriculum licensing arrangements do not qualify for the PGWP from September 2024.
  • Graduates with a Master's degree or short-term graduate programs can apply for a three-year work permit.
  • Modifications to spouse work permits will also be implemented in the coming days.
  • Spouses of students in Masters, Doctoral programs and other study programs will have the availability of open work permits.
