Norway Government Announces changes to the Integration Act

The government of Norway plans to update the Integration Act to integrate refugees into the Norwegian workforce. The changes will primarily focus on accommodating jobs, extending the training period, and increasing the eligibility criteria for the program.

The induction programs will now include more work-related tasks and activities. Individuals participating in the program must complete at least 15 hours of work-related activities every week. This task must be done after three months and is compulsory for those enrolled in short-duration programs.

The latest updates will also apply to those aged 55-60. This gives older refugees more employment opportunities and chances of blending in with the workforce. Norway has also announced an extension of one year for refugee students pursuing formal education in the country. This initiative will help them complete vocational training and higher secondary education, qualifying them to pursue employment opportunities.

Norway prioritizes Refugee Integration

The Norwegian government is taking measures to integrate more refugees into its workforce, considering the ongoing rise in arrivals. The overall number of refugee arrivals remains high despite efforts to introduce methods to control the inflow. Over 75,000 refugees have entered Norway in the last three years, with 27% of Ukrainians already employed in different sectors.

Tonje Brenna, the Minister for Employment and Inclusion, said that one of the government's primary objectives is to clone the strategies used for Ukrainians to the other refugee groups as well. He also emphasized the importance of having a simple and flexible framework to support these goals.
