Canada immigration via Quebec - Target for new immigrants in 2022

The plans have been made and Quebec, the francophone province of Canada, has already decided to invite up to 52,500 new permanent residents holding a Canada PR visa in 2022. If you are routing for Canada immigration to Quebec after studies or for career development, this must get you started.

Quebec’s economic immigration programs will serve as the inlets for new immigrants in 2022. These programs will include PEQ (Quebec Experience Program) and QSWP (Quebec Skilled Worker Program).

The target for newcomers in Quebec has been determined in 2019 itself in a public consultation. This was in connection with the Quebec Immigration Planning 2020-2022.

Apart from Quebec’s targeted newcomers of 49,500 to 52,500 individuals, an extra 18,000 immigrants could be welcomed. These additional newcomers will be allowed in an effort to cover the shortfall in the number of immigrants in 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will bring the final targeted estimate to 70,000 new immigrants in 2022.

Here’s a detail of estimated immigrants falling under different categories:

• Economic category – 33,900 max
  • Skilled workers – 28,800 max
  • Business migrants – 4,300 max
  • Refugees, family reunion etc. - 18,600 max
