Canada expands the list of DLIs for international students

Canada expands its approved DLI list

The list of approved DLIs allowed to admitting international students have been expanded. Under the measures adopted by Canada to safeguard its people from COVID-19, only these DLIs that are approved because they have a COVID-19 readiness plan are allowed to have international students on their campus.

Students who are coming to study in Canada in these DLIs are among those who are allowed to enter Canada as they are treated as traveling for an essential purpose. Initially, only international students holding a Canada study visa before March 18, 2020, were allowed in Canada. But recently, Canada has relaxed the restrictions and allowed more international students to pursue an education in the country.

Now, more educational institutions have been added to the list of approved DLIs. These include:

  • University of Waterloo
  • OCAD University
  • Ryerson University
  • University of Windsor

International students entering Canada have to undergo compulsory quarantine for 14 days once they arrive in Canada. The students are also required to install the ArriveCAN mobile application. This app must be used to submit one’s travel and contact information, student’s quarantine plan, and self-assessment results for COVID-19.
