Toronto features in the top 3 cities for technology workers in Canada and the USA. CBRE’s Scoring Tech Talent Report rated 50 cities in Canada and the US on 13 aspects like job growth, tech supply etc.  San Francisco Bay Area in the US ranked 1st while Seattle in the US came in 2nd.  Toronto was placed on the 3rd rank ahead of New York, Washington and Austin.  Toronto also took the top spot for “Brain Gain”. 80,100 tech jobs have been created by Toronto between 2013 and 2018. At 54% increase, Toronto had the largest growing tech talent pool among the reviewed cities.  Toronto has created the same no. of jobs as the San Francisco Bay Area in the recent 5 years.  The tech sector in Canada has been growing rapidly in recent years. This has increased the need for access to more foreign tech workers. The Federal Govt. and many provincial governments have stepped up their immigration programs to bring in more tech workers.  The largest source of tech professionals and skilled workers in Canada is the Express Entry Progam.  The below occupations were the ones to receive the most number of invites in 2018:
  • Computer Programmers and Interactive Media Developers
  • Software Engineers and Designers
  • Information System Analysts and Consultants
The Express Entry program, however, does not invite candidates based on occupation. Candidates scoring the highest CRS scores are issued ITAs for Canadian Permanent Residence.  Tech workers who are scoring less than the current Express Entry cut-off could benefit a lot from a provincial nomination. Obtaining a provincial nomination adds 600 more points to your CRS score.  Many PNPs have launched tech-specific immigration programs. Ontario is the most recent one to join the bandwagon.  Ontario recently conducted the very first tech draw and invited 1,623 EE candidates. One does not need a job offer to qualify for Ontario’s tech draw.  Several tech occupations have been added by Manitoba to its in-demand list.  Saskatchewan has added Computer Programmers & Interactive Media Developers to its high-demand list.  British Columbia’s tech pilot has also been issuing invitations to tech workers through regular draws.  Tech Companies and high-skilled overseas workers can also make use of the Global Talent Stream. Since its inception in 2014, the GTS has welcomed more than 24,000 skilled workers to Canada. The processing time under the GTS is as less as 2 weeks, as per CIC News.   Y-Axis offers a wide range of visa and immigration services as well as products to the aspiring overseas immigrants includingAustralia Visitor Visa, Canada Evaluation With Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant, and Canada Express Entry    If you are looking to Study, Work, Visit, Invest orMigrate to Canada, talk to Y-Axis, the World’s No.1 Immigration & Visa Company.    If you found this blog engaging, you may also like…
