  • Nova Scotia invests $3 million to enhance English language training and support healthcare workers.

Immigration investment in Nova Scotia

The provincial immigration Minister, Jill Balser, said, "We're very pleased to have attracted so many skilled professionals to Nova Scotia last year in fields where we need them most." The province is investing another $3 million to facilitate the retention of newcomers through tailored activities for each region.


In 2023, 763 healthcare and 244 construction workers were welcomed in Nova Scotia. The province aims to support healthcare workers and improve English language training via community activities.

Nova Scotia in need of Healthcare and construction workers

Vanessa White, the Vice president at Shannex International, said, "International recruitment and immigration is one of the ways we can meet our community's need for care and services with talented, compassionate, and diverse teams that create more inclusive workplaces."

With the launch of the Critical Construction Worker Pilot targeting 21 occupations in the construction sector, construction firms in Nova Scotia could recruit foreign construction workers last year.

New Pathway to Nova Scotia PR

Nova Scotia welcomed 11,800 new residents, hitting a population record of 1,066,416 on October 1, 2023. The new pathway to Nova Scotia Permanent residency is open to individuals belonging to the age range of 21 to 55 years with:

  • A permanent and full-time job offer from a Nova Scotia employer
  • A minimum work experience of 1 year related to the job
  • A high school diploma or proof of completing a construction-specific industry training program
  • Language ability equivalent to CLB Level 5 (NOC TEER 01,2,3) or CLB Level 4 (NOC TEER 4 and 5) even if their first language is French or English
  • Enough financial resources to support their stay in Nova Scotia
