The COVID-19 crisis is dissipating in Canada as vaccinations have increased and preventive measures against the pandemic are effectively implemented. It’s time yet again to aspire to land a job to work in Canada.

It will be worthwhile at this point to be informed about the top destinations in Canada where you can find a job in your area of expertise. A Labor Market Report card came out lately from the Bank of Montreal that identified the top cities offering jobs to immigrants. Among these, the 5 cities in Ontario came on top of the list.

Cities like Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto climbed up the rankings. All Canadian provinces showed strong job growth in Q3 with levels of employment going well above what it was in September 2020. The factors taken into account to make this list included unemployment, employment, and change in population compared to the situation one year back.

Here are the important observations derived from the report:

  • Most job providers exist in smaller centers around Toronto.
  • Larger urban centers like Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are climbing back up in the list now.
  • In the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario, employment has reached at par with or more than pre-COVID levels.
  • British Columbia performed best in the list with jobs available at 1.5% more than what it was in February 2020, and unemployment under 6%.
  • Across Canada unemployment decreased and reached a 20-month low in October 2021 (6.7%).
  • Across Canada, employment grew by 31,000 jobs in October 2021.

Job growth in Canadian provinces

  • Ontario, New Brunswick, and British Columbia registered growth in jobs generated.
  • Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta registered a decrease in jobs generated.

Job growth by industry

  • Among the industrial sectors that saw significant gains were:
    • culture & recreation – added 15,000 jobs
    • retail trade and information – added 72,000 jobs
