Skilled workers wanting to migrate to Canada can avail of the Express Entry system to apply for permanent residence (PR) in the country. You need to obtain the required points, 67 points currently, to be eligible to apply for Canada PR.

Your next goal would be to score the prerequisite points in the Comprehensive Ranking (CRS) system to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for a PR visa in Canada under the Express Entry program. As it is a merit-based points system, the CRS is given to candidates depending on specific criteria. All individuals applying through the Express Entry system are assigned a CRS score calculated out of 1200 points. Individuals who score under the CRS the highest points will get the PR visa and ITA.

The CRS score varies with every Express Entry draw held once about every two weeks by the government of Canada. *Check your eligibility to Canada with the help of Y-Axis Canada Immigration Points calculator.

Criteria that decide the CRS score

Here are the aspects that will affect your CRS score.

There are four components in the CRS score. A migrant worker's profile will be calculated based on these aspects.

The CRS score includes aspects such as human capital factors, spouse/ partner factors, skill transferability, and additional points.

Human capital & spouse/partner factors: These factors together account for a maximum of 500 points. The human capital score would be calculated based on the aspects mentioned earlier, such as age, educational qualifications, English or French language proficiency, and adaptability.

Individuals can score up to 500 points if they are accompanied by their spouses/partners to Canada. If spouses/partners accompany them to Canada, they can score up to 460 points.

Skill Transferability: The maximum number of points individuals can score under this classification is 250 points. Three major factors considered under Skill Transferability are the following.

Educational qualifications: The highest you can score under this is 150 points. Any qualification lesser than that will earn you a lesser number of points. The maximum scores are granted to people with a doctorate.

Work experience: Under this, the maximum points awarded are 80 for those who have come to Canada alone and 70 if their spouse/partner accompanies them.

Canadian qualification: A qualification certificate with language proficiency of a high level could gain you 50 points.

To determine your precise CRS score, you will have to consider the points from your English or French language test results as well as your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) if you have not secured a degree from a Canadian-based university.

CRS limit score

The CRS lowest possible will be higher if the mean of the limit scores is higher in the pool. To discount that probability, it is better if you get the highest possible CRS score.

The CRS score decided for each draw depends on the number of individuals who have applied in the Express Entry pool and the immigration targets of this North American country. As the Canadian government expects to welcome 432,000 immigrants in 2022, the number of people who have applied in the Express Entry pool will determine the CRS before each draw.

By identifying the factors that will decide your CRS score, you can find a way to score the maximum in your CRS to get the necessary number of points to get an invitation to apply (ITA) for PR of Canada.

For instance, on March 2, 2022, the CRS score of the lowermost ranked candidate invited to apply under the Express Entry system for PR for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was 761. The same fell to 754 on March 16, 2022.
