According to the US News and World Report, Canada was ranked #1 globally for the quality of living in 2019 and 2020. Due to globalization, the country realized its strengths due to an increasing number of migrants who entered Canada and developed its economy due to globalization. A study, which covered the Best Countries ranking of 2020, considered the views of those living in 73 countries. Canada ranked #2 on citizenship and #3 on ease of doing business ranks. It was also found that these rankings owed a lot to the role played by not-for-profit organizations and charitable trusts. This North American country is home to 170,000 non-profits and registered charities where over 2 million individuals are employed. Furthermore, the study found that 13 million Canadians offered their time, besides a part of their wages, to support commendable initiatives of the charities. The world’s second-largest country by area depends on immigrants who generate a lot of revenue to enable its charitable sector to remain vibrant. The number of migrant workers employed in social services and charitable organizations grew considerably during the period 2006 -2016. Of the provinces/territories that contributed most to the non-profit organizations, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, topped the list, according to Statistics Canada (2016 Census). For instance, one out of four Canadians working in the social assistance sector was an immigrant. One out of five immigrants of Canada also contributed to social advocacy, social causes, etc. Another finding of the study was that immigrants, on average, are inclined to contribute more to charity when compared to the citizens born in Canada. Canadian migrants also contributed to other sectors as well. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) revealed that the country welcomed 341,180 permanent residents in 2019, of which 74,586 of them gained permanent residency during the same period. Canada houses about 500,000 immigrants who work in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). They also comprise 33% of all of the country’s business owners and 20% of sports coaches in Canada. Canada also needs a high number of migrant workers to be employed in its healthcare sector too. Conclusion As per the 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada plans to invite 832,000 migrant workers into the country. The number of immigrants who entered Canada in the year was more than 400,000, a record in the history of the country. According to reports from the healthcare sector, immigrants comprise 37% of pharmacists, 39% of dentists, 36% of physicians, 35% of nurse aides, and 23% of registered nurses of Canada, among other associated occupations.
