Belgium approves 45,000+ Citizenship Applications in 2024

Belgium granted 45,538 citizenships to foreign nationals from January to September 2024. This is a new record to be created in the last 20 years as the highest number of citizenship approvals in the first 9 months. The increased number of citizenship grants is said to be driven by the migration crisis of 2015-2016. Many refugees from the 2015-16 migration crisis have now completed their integration processes, eventually acquiring Belgian citizenship.

According to the latest report by the De Tijd, five nationalities sent in the most citizenship applications in the first nine months of 2024. A total of 45,538 citizenships were issued in 2024.
