How to receive Canada PR through PGP?

You can receive Canada PR through PGP if you meet the following requirements:

  • Fulfil the eligibility criteria required to be a sponsor which includes residence in Canada, signing an undertaking and meeting income requisites.
  • Fill out an 'interest to sponsor' form on IRCC's website.
  • Check for updates in the email provided on the ‘interest to sponsor’ form from May 21 onwards.
  • Upon receiving an ITA, submit your application through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Residence Portal by the last date mentioned in the mail.

IRCC is willing to process applications within 112 days starting from the date of submission.

What if you do not qualify for the PGP?

Canada offers a Super visa pathway similar to the Parents and Grandparents program (PGP). Citizens and Canada PR holders can sponsor their parents and grandparents to visit Canada through this program. Sponsored family members would receive an extended visitor visa to visit Canada.

Once the application is approved, candidates are allowed to stay in Canada for five years and can extend their stay for another two years. Super-visa applications can be reapplied after it gets expired.

Unlike PGP, super-visa programs are run throughout the year. Applicants can apply for a super visa all year round. The standard processing time of 112 days also applies to super-visa applications.
