Quebec releases 2023 occupation list of easier LMIAs

Highlights: 2023 Occupation List for simplified LMIAs

  • Quebec released an updated occupations list on February 24, 2023.
  • A transitional grace period is offered until March 24 for Quebec employers and representatives.
  • The latest list of occupations for 2023 includes about 300+ job titles.
  • The federal and provincial governments must approve the LMIA applications.

Eligibility criteria for Quebec LMIA processing

Employers must adhere to three primary conditions to employ foreign workers via the simplified LMIA.

Competing working environment

Quebec employers must create an equal work environment in terms of wages and work conditions. The employers must offer similar benefits to that of a Canadian citizen. The employer must mention the job provided, including the obligations and requirements of people already working in this field.

Consenting to rules & regulations

Employers applying for an LMIA must prove the status of their business, including factors like –

  • Established in Quebec
  • Must align with all the promises made at the time of offering a job (financial & materialistic)
  • Has a clear criminal record
  • The job being offered must adhere to the labor requirements.

Health insurance

The employers of Quebec must offer medical coverage and immediate care for the employees until the workers become eligible for coverage.

Computer network and web technicians; Medical laboratory technologists

Skill Level B

TEER 3 Occupations that usually require a college diploma, apprenticeship training of less than 2 years, or more than 6 months of on-the-job training Bakers; Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
Skill Level C TEER 4 Occupations that usually require a high school diploma, or several weeks of on-the-job training

Home child care providers; Retail salespersons and visual merchandisers

Skill Level D

TEER 5 Occupations that usually need short-term work demonstration and no formal education

Landscaping and grounds maintenance labourers; Delivery service drivers and door-to-door distributors
