Australia Skilled Nominated Visa
With the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) migrants can move to Australia. The visa allows them to work and study anywhere in Australia. They can sponsor their eligible relatives for permanent residency. If eligible they can also become an Australian citizen.
This visa was designed to enable migrants belonging to an occupation in high demand in Australia’s labor market.

- You must have experience in a nominated occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List
- You must have completed a skills assessment with a relevant assessing authority for the occupation you have selected
- You must be older than 18 and less than 50 years of age
- You must meet the basic requirements for Skilled Migration which include English language, health, and character checks
- You must have a minimum score of 65 on the points test
Applicants must score at least 65 points against the following points test factors to be eligible for an invitation to apply for this visa. Points are awarded based on the following factors:
- Age: The age of the applicant should be between 18 -49 years.
- English language: The applicant should prove that he/she meets the English language of competent level by submitting the test results of any recognized English language proficiency test before the application is lodged.
- Overseas Experience points (Experience outside Australia): The applicant for the Australia Skilled Nominated visa can claim points for having three/five/eight years of overseas experience in the nominated occupation in the last 10 years.
- Australian Experience: The applicant can claim points for having worked in Australia in one of the occupations listed on the SOL, in a full-time paid employment.
- Overseas Qualification points (Qualifications gained outside Australia): The applicant can claim points for recognized qualifications which is at a level of bachelor’s or higher or PhD. or holding qualifications that are assessed by the assessing body during the skills assessment.
- Australian Study: The applicant can claim additional points for Australian study for a qualification which is a course of at least two academic years or more.
- Live and Study in Regional Area: The applicant can claim additional points, if the Australian study requirement of living and studying in a ‘regional low population growth metropolitan area’ for at least 2 years in Australia, is met.
- Partner Skills: The applicant for the Australia Skilled Immigration Program can claim points under partner skills, if the partner satisfies the basic requirements of age, English language ability, qualifications and skills assessment result.
Step 1: Check if your occupation is on the Skilled Occupation list, assess if you have the minimum required points and meet all the other eligibility factors.
Step 2: Submit your expression of interest in SkillSelect.
Step 3: Wait for the ITA to apply for the visa.
Step 4: Collect the documents required for the application.
Step 5: Apply for the visa within 60 days of receiving the ITA.
This is a permanent visa that allows you to stay in Australia for an indefinite period. However, you can travel to and from Australia only in the first five years that you have the visa. After the 5-year period, you will require a Resident Return (RRV) visa (subclass 155 or 157) to travel outside the country and re-enter it as a permanent resident.
The visa also allows you to enroll in Australia’s public healthcare system.
When making your visa application, you can also include your family members. They can include your:
- Your partner (married or de facto)
- Yours or your partner’s dependent children
- Other dependent relatives
