A detailed insight into the Budget 2023-24

  • Canada has released the Budget for 2023-24 with an investment commitment of $55 million towards the Immigration system of Canada.

In a series of tweets, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that individuals on a US business visa or US tourist visa, i.e., B1 and B2 visa, are now eligible to apply for a new role. Additionally, they can appear for an interview for a prospective job to work in US.

The USCIS’ move came as good news for thousands of  who have lost their jobs due to layoffs and changed their visa status to B1 and B2 visa to stay in the US.

Eligibility Criteria for Job Search on B1 and B2 Visa

Before applying any new job, all B1 and B2 visa holders should:

  • Get a petition and change of status approval from B-1 or B-2 visa to an employment-authorized status.
  • Ensure that the new status takes effect before commencing the new job in US.

  • A provincial nomination has become the most accessible pathway for candidates to enter Canada.
  • Candidates participating in the Express Entry can increase their chances of scoring 600 CRS points by receiving an ITA via the provincial nomination.
  • The 600 points received through the invitation can boost the candidate’s chance of getting a PR.
  • A recent meeting was held between immigration ministers by the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI) to discuss ways that can promote the immigration rate of the country.
  • The first-of-a-kind “Multi-year Immigration Plan” was declared due at the meeting.
  • The multi-year immigration plan works similarly to that of the Federal Immigration Level Plans that devise the immigration targets for three consecutive years.

PNP Developments

  • The country’s federal, provincial, and territorial ministers have agreed on creating a multi-year immigration plan relating to the PNP program.
  • The revised immigration plan was initiated to give the two levels of government more flexibility to strategize immigration plans.
  • The multi-year PNP plan was re-endorsed by the immigration ministers of each province & territory of Canada.
  • The re-introduction of the PNP plan was held during the bi-annual Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration (FMRI).
  • The Canadian PNP program is functional in 11 territories & provinces of Canada, excluding Quebec and Nunavut.
  • Several provinces and territories have started implementing various immigration plans, with Ontario having decided to put forth two fundamental requests to the government.
  • The first request from Ontario was to have more liberty over the process of economic immigration, with the second request being to double the PNP allocations to over 18,000.
  • Alberta will have its PNP allocations increase to 10,849 by the year 2025.
  • Saskatchewan’s PNP allocations will increase to 8,500 by the year 2025.
  • Manitoba’s PNP allocations will increase to 9,500 by the end of this year.

How to apply for the PNP program?

  • The PNP program has two types: Base PNP nominations and Enhanced PNP nominations.

Base PNP

Step 1: Create an account with IRCC upon getting a provincial nomination.

Step 2: Fill out the application form.

Step 3: Pay the application fees.

Step 4: Apply online and wait for the status of the application.

Step 5: Fly to Canada.

Enhanced PNP

  • Immigration nominations for PR via the Express Entry program can be known as Enhanced PNP.
  • Candidates get 600 CRS points when they receive a PNP nomination.
  • There are two ways through which the Enhanced PNP applications are processed –

– The provincial or territorial governments check the Express Entry pool for possible PR aspirants.

– Provinces will review the profiles of the possible PR aspirants.

Step 1: Create an account with the IRCC

Step 2: Submit an Express Entry profile.

Step 3: Receive a territorial, state, or provincial nomination.

Step 4: Upon accepting the Express Entry nomination, you must receive an ITA.

Step 5: Fill out the application, pay the fees, and fly to Canada.

What is the processing time for PNP nominations?

  • The PNP program has Base PNP nominations and Enhanced PNP nominations, wherein the Enhanced PNPs have a faster processing time than Base PNP nominations.
