What is the cost of applying for Canada PR in 2022

If you are thinking of applying for Canada PR visa, you should know the steps in the application process and be sure of the immigration program that you choose for your PR visa. The Express Entry System and the PNP are two ways to get your Canada PR.  But first you should check if you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for Canada’s immigration programs. If you meet the eligibility requirements, here is a brief description of the steps you should follow:

  • Get your Education Credentials Assessment (ECA)
  • Complete your language ability tests and get the required IELTS score
  • Create your Express Entry profile and get your profile included in the Express Entry pool
  • Apply in the province or region where you desire to settle if you choose the PNP option
  • Calculate your CRS score
  • Get your Invitation to Apply (ITA)
  • Undergo mandatory medical and criminal background checks
  • Receive confirmation of your PR status

Cost of applying for Canada PR in 2022

The amount of money you will need to move to Canada is determined by the size of your family and the immigration program you choose. In addition, it includes settlement funds, processing fees, document translation, and other costs.

Even before you choose an immigration program under which you want to migrate to Canada, you should first be prepared to meet certain expenses such as cost for language proficiency tests, educational assessments and cost for the medical tests.

In Canada, the CELPIP General Test costs CAD $ 280 including taxes. The cost of the IELTS General Test is CAD$ 300 with taxes. The availability and costs differ by country.

You may also need to get your diplomas validated by a Canadian government-approved institution. World Education Services is one of them (WES). The cost of a diploma validation is approximately CAD 220, with an extra CAD$ 100 for each additional unit. Basic delivery and taxes are included in the price.

This process is required not only for Express Entry and PNPs, but also for applications for temporary residency (like study or work visas). They are only carried out by doctors who have been approved by the Canadian government.

The cost depends on the doctor, the city, and the country, as well as the required exams, which normally include a chest X-ray, blood test, and a urine test. The best option is to call a qualified specialist near your home and inquire about costs.

Following the submission of your profile and receipt of an Invitation to Apply (ITA), the candidate must deliver the papers and documentation that attests to the accuracy of the information provided on the profile.

The cost of translations is between CAD 350 to CAD 450.

Application cost for Express Entry program

There is no cost involved in creating an Express Entry profile, however you will have to pay when you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). The processing fees are the same for the principal applicant and his/her spouse and a separate fee for every dependent child.  However, children are exempt from paying the right of permanent resident fee.

Type of applicant Fees in CAD
Principal applicant $825
Spouses or common-law partners $825
Dependent children $225
Right of permanent resident fee $500

Application cost for Provincial Nominee Program

Each province and territory determine their own application or processing fees. They are in addition to the federal immigration fees that successful province nominees must pay in order to apply for Canada PR visa. However, the charges for the entire family for PNP applications is fixed.

 Proof of funds

Immigration candidates should provide proof of funds called settlement funds. Letters from banks where the money is deposited is required as proof. However, those who are authorized to work in Canada or have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada are not required to submit this proof.

The settlement funds will vary depending on the number of family members of the primary PR applicant.

The funds should be enough to cover the cost of living for themselves and their family members in Canada. Applicants should submit the proof when they submit their application.

The amount of money required depends on the size of the family of the immigrant. The amounts are revised every year. The requirements for 2021 are:

Number of Family Members Funds Required (in Canadian dollars)
1 $13,213
2 $16,449
3 $20,222
4 $24,553
5 $27,847
6 $31,407
7 $34,967
Each additional family member $3,560

To determine the amount of money they will need, applicants will have to research the cost of living in the place where they wish to migrate. However, they cannot borrow this money from others and come to the country.

Immigrants can bring this money to Canada in the form of cash, stocks or bonds, bank drafts, cheques etc.

Candidates should submit this proof of funds once they receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for their PR visa.

The total cost of your PR visa will be the sum of your application fees for you and your spouse and dependents, fees for medical examination, English language test, ECA fees, medical examination fees etc.

IT

The scope of jobs in IT is vast in Canada. There are many opportunities and options in full-time employment and short-term contracting. One thing you have to project is that you are an expert in whatever job you are willing to undertake. This is because Canadian firms are looking for specialists in various fields of IT. The job roles would be for functions such as software development, database design and management, project management, and quality maintenance.

Healthcare

Mind you that healthcare careers are strictly regulated in Canada. Hence you must carefully make the right decision about which province you are choosing to pursue accreditation in. This is because different Canadian provinces have different programs to decide credentials with different criteria.

Trades

Currently, there’s a huge requirement for trades workers in Canada. You have to understand that each Canadian province/territory assesses the eligibility of trades workers using unique criteria. It’s also true that most employers are looking for experienced workers in trades jobs who have received on-the-job training. So, check through the criteria for eligibility in your shortlisted Canadian provinces and prepare yourself to be fit for that destination.

How to fit into the Canadian job scene

There are SPOs (Service Provider Organizations) funded by the Canadian government whose assistance can be taken to get a footing in Canada by landing the right job at the right place. SPOs are also called employment agencies or settlement agencies. These agencies offer services including:

  • Interview practice
  • Assistance in searching for jobs
  • Language classes and assessment of language skills
  • Help with resume writing and review

Here are some more general tips for your success:

  • Stop drafting a generic resume. Customize your resume to suit the job position you are applying to. Highlight your technical experience if any that you possess in the particular section you have worked in while you draft your resume.
  • Use bridging programs run by Canada if you are a trained professional. These programs that allow you to continue your education and improve your skills, especially to suit the Canadian labor needs, are available via many Canadian universities. These programs benefit the newcomers in Canada by enabling them to complete the migration process without flaws.
  • Get your credentials like educational certificates and certificates of work experience ready and available to submit for scrutiny during the application process. If your educational credentials have to match up to the Canadian equivalent, this scrutiny called ECA will be necessary. ECA could even be mandatory for certain job types.

Ontario wants to double the no. of immigrants allowed via Ontario PNP

Ontario to double annual intake of skilled immigrants

Ontario to double annual intake of skilled immigrants

If you are seeking a chance to enter Canada via provincial selection, here’s the news you could use! Ontario’s Minister of Immigration has expressed the need to double the number of skilled immigrants who arrive annually in the province via Ontario PNP draws to settle there.

The request has been communicated to Canada’s federal government. This request was made in light of the acute shortage of workers in Ontario. In fact, the shortage felt now is unprecedented.

After going through the COVID-19 crisis, the province has to rebuild itself into a better and stronger one. What’s required is the manpower to achieve this goal, for which more immigrant intake will be necessary.

There are 316,000 vacant jobs in Ontario which need to be filled. This number is a 35% jump from what it was in 2020. In 2020, Ontario PNP had welcomed 18,040 new immigrants to the province under the FSWP. Comparing this to 2019, the huge difference is clearly seen, in 2019, Ontario had welcomed 44.075 new immigrants to the province.

In 2021, till August end, 3,555 new Canada PR visa holders were there in Ontario. These immigrants came to Ontario via the FSWP. Another pathway for aspiring immigrants to migrate to Ontario is the GTS. This stream comes under the TFWP which processes Canadian work permits and applications for visas under a 2-week period. This program is effective in filling labor shortages in Ontario.

If you are interested to immigrate to Ontario, you can also lodge an application under these economic immigration programs:

  • Skilled Worker program
  • Skilled Trade program
  • Caregiver program
  • Canadian Experience program
  • Atlantic Immigration Pilot program

Canada invites 775 Canada PR visa aspirants on Nov 10, 2021

Express Entry CEC Draw, Nov 10

Express Entry CEC Draw, Nov 10

Canada is gladly welcoming deserving Canada immigration candidates and offering them a chance to get a Canada PR visa. The country is trying to attract more skilled and resourceful immigrants who can contribute well to the economic development of the country.

Canada also has a huge immigration target to achieve in 2021. Now, as the vaccinations are largely successful, Canada is more open to travel and immigration.

More immigrants to arrive via Express Entry draw held on November 10, 2021

On November 10, 2021, 775 Express Entry candidates were invited to apply for a Canada PR visa. These selected immigration candidates were already holding provincial nominations received from an earlier PNP draw.

Being provincially nominated, they have been granted 600 extra CRS points. These additional points have helped bring up their CRS scores to benefit them in this Canada Express Entry draw by giving them the chance to apply for a Canada PR visa.

The selected candidates were to have at least 685 points to qualify for an invitation. This means that these candidates had basically 85 CRS points to which provincial nomination added 600 CRS points.

Since the COVID-19 started in March 2020, IRCC has been keen on involving PNP candidates only from the Express Entry pool. This was done because PNP candidates have already demonstrated to a Canadian territory or province that their immigration will bring great economic benefits to the region.

The Nov 10 draw had the second-lowest minimum score (cutoff score) in the PNP-only draw category since March 2020.

British Columbia PNP pilot program to get more community participation

BC welcomes 300 new immigrants via Business Programs during pandemic

BC welcomes 300 new immigrants via Business Programs during pandemic

It’s been more than just business as expected in British Columbia when a pilot immigration program attracted impressive numbers of foreign entrepreneurs to British Columbia. The British Columbia PNP Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot that was introduced in 2019 has contributed well to the migration of foreign entrepreneurs that happened in the years after the pilot program’s launch.

The great news that has come up lately is that over 50 communities are expressing their willingness to take part in phase 2 of the pilot program.

Migration of businesspeople during the COVID-19 pandemic time

In general, Canada immigration did face the challenge of reduced flow of immigrants to Canada and more so into provinces like British Columbia. But remarkably, the province has been able to bring in 300 new immigrants under the business class of the province’s economic immigration programs during this tough period.

In fact, immigration to British Columbia has picked up considerably in 2021. From January 2021 till the end of August 2021 BC has welcomed 37,675 new Canada PR visa holders ready to live and work in the province.

Under the British Columbia PNP Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot, the following criteria have to be met by foreign entrepreneurs willing to start a new business in a smaller community in BC to be eligible to immigrate:

  • They must establish a new business deemed eligible and aligns with the referring community’s priorities
  • They must make a personal investment of at least $100,000 in the business deemed eligible
  • They must possess, or have to be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada
  • They must show experience in business and/or management
  • They must create a minimum of one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen/permanent resident
  • They must have been lawfully allowed to live in the country where they live at present
  • They must have a minimum personal net worth of $300,000
  • They must demonstrate a language proficiency level of at least CLB 4

The original pilot program has been extended till March 31, 2024. This was done to help BC’s communities to take in more business immigrants to their regions. These newcomers will support the province in its efforts to recover economically after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communities that want to qualify for this pilot program must meet the following criteria:

  • They must have a population of fewer than 75,000 people
  • They must be located beyond 30 km of a municipality that has over 75,000 people
  • They must have a demonstrated capacity to support the entrepreneur via a network of established agencies dedicated to settlement and business support

British Columbia is a Canadian province that has immense potential for entrepreneurs to grow their business in a variety of areas including healthcare and IT. The communities in the province need skilled foreign individuals to enter and set up an environment for mutual development.

Canada immigration to rebound as 8 more airports to reopen soon

Canada to open 8 more airports to international travel

Canada to open 8 more airports to international travel

The process of opening the country up for international travelers is underway in Canada. In what could be good news for Canada immigration, the country has decided to allow 8 more Canadian airports to accept international flights starting at the end of November 2021.

This step will coincide well with the increased influx of people into the country after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have been lifted. The increased vaccination levels have made it safer to reopen an additional number of Canadian airports for international flights for passengers.

It was in August 2021, that Canada reopened 5 Canadian airports to international flights. With the reopening of 8 more airports on November 30, 2021, the total number of airports that will be open for international passengers will be 18. The 18 airports that will be open by the end of November 2021, are:

Opening on Nov 30, 2021

  • John’s International
  • Regina International
  • Abbotsford International
  • John C. Munro Hamilton International
  • Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International
  • Victoria International
  • Region of Waterloo International
  • Kelowna International

Already open

  • Halifax Stanfield International
  • Ottawa/Macdonald–Cartier International
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International
  • Vancouver International
  • Québec City Jean Lesage International
  • Toronto Pearson International
  • Edmonton International
  • Montréal-Trudeau International
  • Billy Bishop Toronto City Centre
  • Calgary International

In coordination with the Canada Border Services Agency, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Transport Canada, Canadian airport authorities are working to implement safety measures to welcome international passengers. All these steps are pushing Canada immigration forward and reestablishing the immigrant flow that was slacking due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The credit to these new developments has been attributed to the timely rollout of vaccine passports as well as a robust vaccination program. In August 2021 itself, Canada had reopened its border with the USA, allowing fully-vaccinated Americans to enter Canada.

Vaccine Passport

Justin Trudeau, the Canadian PM, has made an announcement about the launch of a nationally standardized vaccine passport system by all territorial and provincial governments in Canada.

Canada adds 31000 jobs in October 2021

Very positive development of the Canadian economy was registered in October 2021. This makes Canada even more attractive a destination for immigrants to move to. As the situation around the COVID-19 pandemic is getting better by the day, thanks to vaccinations, the Canadian economy is rebounding better. Canada immigration has also caught the momentum of changes. The Canadian government is making it more conducive for immigrants to move to the country and build promising careers.

In October 2021, Canada added 31,000 jobs to its economy. This coincided with the fall in unemployment for the fifth month straight this year. The latest Labor Force Survey by Statistics Canada revealed the status of the period between October 10 and 16. It was in this week that many Canadian provinces implemented initiatives for proof of vaccination. Quebec, British Columbia, and Ontario removed capacity limits. They were replaced with proof-of-vaccine requirements.

Unemployment fell to a low level of 6.7% in October 2021, which was the lowest in 20 months. This was close to the pre-pandemic levels of 5.7% in February 2020.

Other developments include the following:

  • Compared to the number of people who would want to get employed in the accommodation and food services industries before the pandemic, the number of unemployed workers reduced considerably in October 2021.
  • There was a huge growth in industries like scientific, technical, and professional that indicates that there’s a need for many more skilled professionals to fill vacant positions.
  • The number of very recent immigrants reaching Canada has increased from 184,000 newcomers in 2020 to 267,000 newcomers in 2021. Those immigrants who have lived in Canada for 5 years or less are known as “very recent immigrants.
